1) What are the causes of male baldness?
Male baldness is caused mainly by heredity, from the genes that were passed from your father to you, and was already determined when you were born. Besides genetics, it is also linked to male hormones. Temporary baldness (due to infectious disease or chemotherapy) is reversible, when these causes go away. It´s important to remember that stress, lack of vitamins, psoriasis, or washing your hair too much, are not really causes of baldness.
2) Does baldness only happen with older men?
This is not true. The genetic baldness pattern normally begins to evolve at around 18 or 19 years, and establishes itself around 35 years. This is because the number of hair follicles that will die was already genetically pre-determined at birth.
3) Is there something that can be done to avoid baldness?
No. Some believe that if they wash their hair less, or cut it regularly, they can reduce the loss. But this has no influence at all in the genetic process. There is nothing that can genetically change the follicle that’s responsible for the germination of hair.
4) Do these products based on Minoxidol produce any results?
Also no. What happens is that these products simply enlarge and enhance the small tufts of hair that a person still has remaining. There has been no product invented that makes hair grow since baldness is defined genetically. Only the micro-transplant gives definite results. The other methods are ineffective.
5) Why do micro-transplants give such definite results?
Because the micro-transplants are taken from areas that are genetically immune to any hormonal action. For this reason these hairs, once transplanted, will never fall again.
6) So the hair is just transplanted from one side of the head to the other?
Not exactly. What’s important to realize is that we transplant the living follicle that still has the genetic charge that will continue to produce new hair indefinitely in its new location. The new location does not change this.
7) Is this surgery very complicated?
For the doctor it’s really very delicate work, like a work of art. But for the patient it’s very simple, including the care afterwards. This is because it’s done with local anesthesia, doesn’t require any hospitalization, and lasts about 2 hours. The patient wears a head bandage for just 1 day, and can return to normal activities on the following day.
8) After the operation, does the patient go home with new hairs?
No. We transplant only the follicles that produce new hairs. The new hair will grow out in approximately 3 months afterwards.
9) When is the best time to do a micro-transplant?
There is no perfect time. The micro-transplant can be done at any age, when the patient begins to feel uncomfortable with his baldness.
10) Is it possible to do a micro-transplant in men that really have very little hair on the sides?
We always place the maximum number of hairs possible in each surgical phase. A re-evaluation is done after 1 year for a possible follow-up phase, if necessary.
11) Is there such a thing as female baldness?
There is, and it can be treated successfully with the same process. Besides this, we can also reconstruct sideburns and eyebrows.
12) What is the “refinement” of the hairline?
Completing the front hairline is the most sophisticated and delicate part of the procedure. Small, fine hairs are placed, one by one, to blend in with the existing natural fine hairs of the front hairline. This is where a good doctor has to work more like an artist, to give final result that looks completely natural.
13) Can any patient do a refinement of the front hairline?
Any patient can do a refinement, including those that have already done a hair transplant with another method, but are not satisfied. The refinement eliminates the artificial appearance of any transplant (such the doll head) and can correct other irregularities of a poorly done transplant by another doctor.
14) Are the results of the micro-transplant really that good?
Yes they are, because we can create a natural style with this new technique, and eliminate the fear of an artificial appearance of the older methods. |
